According to WHO and other medical studies, walking 8,000-10,000 steps every day can bring health benefits. Every day, people in Hong Kong walk an average of 6,880 steps – the highest in the world.

Sponsored by the Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities Trust and initiated by Clean Air Network, We Are Transport is dedicated to promoting a healthy walking lifestyle. We map out quality walking routes, and we share the joy of walking.

This campaign aims to change our community by combining efforts from every participant, challenging the way we commute, and rethinking urban transport planning. To make significant changes, every step counts.

Our Focus — Three core activities and comprehensive information

Our plan consists of three main components:

  1. Walk Leaders: Everyone can be a Walk Leader. By replacing cars with walking, we can map out walking routes with different themes, e.g. cat-watching, coffee-breaks, comics, exotic experiences, music – you name it! We walk to strengthen our bond, to share fun, and to increase public engagement.
  2. Star Events: Events in different scales will be hosted by renowned figures to promote walking as a lifestyle trend.
  3. Light Shows: We will prepare light show projections on iconic buildings throughout our city, showing information about air pollution and the benefits of walking, challenging our existing way of commute.

We will also invite all participants to create a walkers’ map aggregating all special routes and facilities that are walking friendly, such as bathrooms, toilets, changing rooms, lockers, water fountains and resting places. We will provide more information about the impacts of air pollution on local and global levels, and how we can fix it just by walking.
